When we started putting together the first issue of Femke, Cher was our North Star. Few artists have had an impact on pop culture like Cher. Her music and persona provided much inspiration as we thought about how to best express ourselves.

Born Cherilyn Sarkisian, she’s been a fearless fashion icon (all those Bob Mackie outfits) and a human rights activist. She has won an Oscar, a Grammy Award, an Emmy, three Golden Globes, and the Best Actress at the Cannes.

Cher is always relevant. She is only artist to date to have achieved a number-one Billboard single in each of the past six decades. And she’s got an album of Abba covers, “Dancing Queen,” it came out in September 2018.

For the print issue of Femke (on sale now), we asked various friends and Femke staffers to meditate on what Cher means to them.
